Drugs with blockbuster potential from Umeå company Umecrine
Last year 6 million Euros were invested in the Umecrine group, by both Swedish and French investors. The company is developing drugs with first-in-class, multi-billion potential, for indications such as mood swings and dementia.
The story of Umecrine began in 1972 and is based on the groundbreaking research of Torbjörn Bäckström (professor at Umeå University and CEO of Umecrine AB) and his team.
Umecrine's business is about the negative effects of GABA steroids (metabolites of natural sex and stress hormones) on the human brain and the diseases this could lead to, and the development of new drugs to counteract these effects.
